Many drugs will go off patent by 2005. As a proactive
measure to ensure competitive edge in the emerging markets, Orchid
has developed non-infringing processes for manufacture of select
cephalosporins. This will further strengthen Orchid's position both
nationally and internationally, as the new processes developed are
being patented worldwide.
Further progress has been achieved in antibiotic
adduct research, with additional molecules under experimentation
with combinations. Orchid's antibiotic adduct research aims to
develop antibiotic polymer complexes which utilize a low proportion
of standard antibiotic, while achieving equivalent therapeutic
efficacy and lower toxicity.
Orchid has developed a business plan which includes
specific investment for new research and development programs
including setting up of the Second R & D Center for New Drug
Discovery and Novel Drug Delivery Systems.
