| Absorption : |
| After oral administration, 40-50% of a given dosage is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. |
| 65-70% of the drug is bound to plasma proteins. |
| Cefixime achieves high concentrations in the bile |
| Excretion : |
| The drug is excreted in the bile and urine. |
| Between 12-34% of the drug is excreted in the urine. |
| Upto 60% of the drug is eliminated by non renal mechanisms including biliary excretion |

| Cefixime is effective in the management of |
| Typhoid |
| Urinary tract infections |
| Upper and Lower respiratory tract infections |
| Gonococcal urethritis |
| Contraindications: |
| Known allergy to Cephalosporins. |
| Warnings : |
| In an individual allergic to beta lactam antibiotics, the probability of allergy manifestation to Cefixime cannot be ruled out. |
| Subsequent to the administration of Cefixime, patients who present with diarrhoea should be considered for diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis. |
